Dramatic pictures and a video double decker bus fire

The actions of the driver of a double decker bus which caught fire traveling along the A30 this morning have been praised by firefighters sent to tackle the blaze.

A video taken by a passing motorist and pictures taken by firefighters show the bus on the hard shoulder of the A30 at Preeze Cross, Bodmin completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Bodmin were called to the site of the fire at around 9.03am this morning (April 22).

The bus was well alight by the time firefighters and a water carrier from Liskeard arrived at the scene.

Luckily there were no passengers on board at the time and the driver escaped uninjured.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to put out the fire, but by that timer the bus was completely destroyed.

To stop the fire from spreading, the crew damped down and check the interior of the bus for fire spread by removing some of the seating.

Posting a video of the incident on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bodmin Fire Station praisewd the actions of the driver: “Here’s some dramatic footage of this mornings bus fire! Some quick actions from the bus driver sees the bus pull over safely to the side of the road.”

A report from fire control said: “Two appliances from Bodmin Fire Station and the Water Carrier from Liskeard were mobilised to this incident.

“The incident involved a double decker bus that was well alight but was not carrying any passengers and the driver escaped uninjured.

“Firefighters used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. The crew continued to damp down and check the interior of the bus for fire spread by removing some of the seating.

“This has now been completed and the incident has been handed over.”

National Highways: South-West warned drivers to expect delays following the incident with one lane closed for carriageway inspection, clean up, and recovery of the affected vehicle. Expect delays on approach.
