Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has been announced as a finalist in two categories at the Construction News Awards.

The trust's Critical Care Healing Garden and the Lowen Ward and Trelawny Scanning Suite have both been shortlisted for honours.

The Healing Garden, a space designed for critically ill patients to experience the healing power of nature, has been shortlisted for the Community Engagement Project of the Year.

Realised from a dream of the Critical Care Unit staff, it came to fruition in September 2023 after a successful fundraising campaign and generous donations from the local community.

The Lowen Ward and Trelawny Scanning Suite is in line for the Project of the Year (£20m - £50m).

Opened in June 2023, this extension of the hospital’s existing Trelawny Wing provides a larger scanning services area, increased bed capacity, eight isolation rooms, a dedicated palliative care suite, and a modern iodine treatment room.

It boasts two new MRI scanners, enhanced ultrasound rooms and is supported by first-class estates and facilities services such as a vacuum drainage system.
